Commonwealth Games, Melbourne 2006

Hands up all of you who are aware that the “Commonwealth Games” are on in
Melbourne
Australia at the moment.

In fact they are at day 6 which is the half way mark, these are a serious rival to
the Olympic Games for the nations of the British Commonwealth and have
athletes from 107 nations competing, mind you a lot of those are small island
nations, but it covers about ¼ of the worlds population.

Now I’m not doing a promotion of the games, I am a very casual observer of the
main events on television, as would be expected, Australia, with our proud
sporting record and a home crowd advantage, is doing very well in the medal
tally.

I’ll do a final wrap up when the games finish of medal tallies, world records
that are set, there have already been a few, and any other worthwhile data.

My main reason for bringing this up was to advise that my son Marcus, who is
the chaplain at the Bussleton High School, has , with one lady teacher, taken a
group of 12 girls across the country to attend said games, as well he has taken
his two youngest sons.

This group who are all suitable decked out in patriotic clothing, have been
mistaken for competitors almost everywhere they go, so much so they are
thinking of claiming to be the Australian Women's Volleyball side.

Link to Marcus here, he is a blogging machine at the best of times and now
with an event this size to cover he has created a blog of their adventure, I
recommend it to you for a more personal coverage than you would find in
the press.

Is it true that a lot of people over there actually take vacation time from work to watch the games?

Sounds like fun!

BTW, The template looks good, but your current story is bleeding over into your profile. Thought you might want to know. :)

Yes I forgot to comment on it. I love the new template. And I see now funny words to type either. :)

Well, I don't know, Peter. He said he saw all these events -- and didn't tell me who won. Piffle.

I've never even heard of those games. You'd think it would get covered some here in the US being that it involves so many nations & people.
I'm glad you informed me about something I didn't know. I'm sure Australia will do very well overall, as usual.

I guess us uppity Yanks must have sunk all our invitations to the Commonwealth Games along with a whole mess of tea in Boston Harbor.

Hi Peter ~~ We sure have been doing well
at the Commonwealth Games. Lots of
medals, for such a small population.
Have watched some on TV as I like to have a background noise.
I am cancelling Rockit tomorrow, could only get 400 MG and John said not enough
Going now for Netspace256 Extreme which has 20Gb for $40 monthly.Rockit $50 and not enough MBs. Didn't realise I could
speak Double Dutch. Cheers, Merle.
