About 18 months ago I bought a 42 inch flat screen TV with all the bells and whistles, I had owned and enjoyed this TV for a little over 12 months when suddenly... NO PICTURE... it still had sound but I thought it was a bit too large and expensive for a radio, I was cursing my luck that it waited until the warranty was up before it died, however further investigation revealed that it had a 3 year warranty, WOW!!! good luck for a change, so I took it to the manufacturers recommended repair shop.
It must have been happy there because it stayed there for a Looong time, after several phone calls where I heard of, parts shortage, shipping delays and the like... I finally got my TV back, and joy of joys it all seemed to be working fine.... well except that I now had to switch between TV and "Components" to watch a DVD... Ah well, I can live with that!!!
Wazza rang me a few nights ago to tell me there was a movie which he knew I would like to see on TV, it didn't start until 11.40 pm so he suggested I record it and watch it later... too easy ... so far, I began to wonder how I could achieve this with my current TV/ DVD setup... the short answer was that I couldn't!!!
Sooo.. I sat up and watched it, only missing a couple of very brief bits somewhere about 1.00 AM.
Now at long last we can get to the DIY part of this story....
The next day I determined that I would fix this problem!!!! I opined that it must be in the reconnection of the not inconsiderable number of cables to the TV when I got it back from the repair shop so this became my starting point, after unsuccessfully trying every possible combination with no joy I pulled ALL of the cables from both the TV and the DVD... got out the manuals and started from scratch, we have been at this for about 2 hours by this time!!!!
Over the next two hours with some varying degrees of success, this only after reprogramming the DVD from scratch, I had ALL the pictures working as they should.... but no sound when on the DVD, another read through the manuals gave no clue as to why this was so, creative thinking came into play... there are PLENTY of spare terminals on both the TV and the DVD I'll just connect another pair of audio cables and try that (I have PLENTY of spare cables having ripped them all of a couple of hours ago!!!) beyond belief, EVERYTHING is working perfectly on the TV and the DVD, including the ability to record things from TV to DVD, all that remained to be done was to sort the channels into the order that I like them in.... a brief hour later this had been achieved and I settled back for some viewing a contented man.

My system used to be hooked up through the "Home Theater" system... it is now working (albeit perfectly) through the rather excellent speakers of the TV set, so until I watch the next "blockbuster action show" on DVD and am disappointed by the lack of room shaking reverberated sound and decide to reconnect the "Home Theater System" all is well at holtieshouse....
