Wedding # 1

Stacey and Jake's wedding March 3rd 2007.

Stacey and Jake on the big day.

My lovely Grand Daughter

The Foster family with the new Mr and Mrs Broadstock.

The ceremony

A proud Dad and his favourite Daughter

Marcus and I while we were still awake and coherent.

I’m hoping to get some photos on to this post later if they don’t
turn up this time be patient there are LOTS to come.

I’m very pleased that I got into Adelaide a few days early as it gave
me a chance to spend some fairly relaxed time with the family as
they gradually arrived at the unit which is home away from home
for the Foster family.

Vicki particularly enjoyed going out for a nice meal with her Mum
and Dad, something that doesn’t happen often, mind you she also
enjoyed some “retail therapy” with her mother, a thing that most
members of the female race seem to enjoy, Vicki has a better
excuse than most for her shopping sprees though as the shops
are limited to essential items at Wudinna.
(nearly 600 kms from Adelaide.)

We were blessed with a break in the hot weather for the wedding on
Saturday, it was a garden ceremony held at Jakes parents lovely old
stone home at Glenelg which is a beautiful seaside suburb of Adelaide.

So the scene is set, a lovely garden, a group of very nice people, a superb day, a happy couple in love and you have a picture of Stacey and Jake’s wedding.

There was time for one last meal, this time with lots of family and friends before grabbing a few hours sleep to prepare us for the 2500 klm trip from Adelaide to Busselton WA.

Marcus Rex and I set out for Wudinna Sunday morning, Rex needed to get home to do some livestock work, after a couple of hours rest Marcus and I set off for WA, we managed this almost non-stop except for a couple of hours sleep just before dawn.

At one of the fuel stops the operator warned us that if we were heading west we would strike a lot of kangaroo’s just down the road and then for the next 300 kms, thus began our game of “Kangaroolette” as Marcus named it.

The Roo’s were lined up along the road verges in vast numbers, this in itself would not have been a problem but in any given group of Roo’s there is a larrikin element that want to hop onto the highway either at great speed or very casually, as though intent on suicide.

We were the only ones silly enough to be on the road at this time so there were no trucks and road-trains plowing their way through them so there was almost no tell tale bodies to indicate how serious the problem was.

During the 4 or 5 hours it took to negotiate the section of highway that contained the problem we went close to hitting several of the offenders, I am still claiming my perfect record of never hitting a native animal, Marcus has challenged this by stating the very quiet clip we heard as we tipped the tip of a Roo’s tail was a hit, as there was no damage to the car or the Roo I am claiming my record is intact.

With the exception of this part of the trip we laughed and joked our way across the continent, there was the occasional serious conversation also just in case you are thinking we are a couple of air-heads.

Jacqui and Walter are claiming a trip they did a few years ago was worse than ours as they had to dodge the Wedge-tail Eagles that were feasting on the fresh road-kill next morning.

As we didn’t have the shield of trucks to disperse the Roo’s and were driving with such skill that there was no road-kill for the Eagles to feast on that aspect of the trip was not under contest.

Now comes a few days of visiting with the Busselton chapter of the Holt Clan before heading to Perth 300 klm away for the second wedding, there is another bonus as it is Carolyn’s birthday on Thursday so we are all heading out to dinner at Margaret River which is a very popular wine producing area.

Gidday Peter,
Great picture of you and Vicki and also of you and Marcus, oh and also of the wedding. Stacey looked great.
Ah, the joys of driving down the kangaroo highway. I want a bottle of wine from Margaret River when you return. You also need to post some photos of Busselton and Margaret River (altho' I proberly don't need to tell you this) as this is a beautiful part of Australia.

Beautiful bride!

“Kangaroolette” ? I'd be a nervous wreck! Not looking forward to the 40 minute drive after dinner from a country town to our bush block on Friday. But 4-5 hours???

Sounds like a great time!

I would have liked to see some pictures of the kangaroos. I think that one hit your car with his tail, not the other way around.

That looks like a very nice family. I know you are proud and sure will claim the new ones too.
I had never thought of the kangeroos being a driving hazzard. I thought they all were staying with their trainers.
Welcome back.

Lovely photos of your family, Peter and the bride is beautiful!

Kangaroos are such stupid animals. They see a car and think, oh, I'll hop across the road now. No wonder our highways are renowned for the fur lined roads. The road between Roma and Brisbane is a kangaroo cemetary as well.

Just as well you didn't hit one though...they do some damage to a car!

Continue taking care and dodging roos...

Hi Peter.
Lovely photo of the happy couple.and of you Vicki and Marcus.
Stacy sure made a beautifull bride,
A clean slate peter I think the roo's tail hit you.We never hit a roo but we had damage to the van by a wedgetail eagle that we had splattered all over the windscreen and and front of caravan. Enjoy the rest of your trip.
Take care stay safe. Jan
