Fun Monday October 15 2007

http://fromtheplanetofjanet.blogspot.com/

here is your Fun Monday assignment this week:

Describe your meeting with your spouse/significant other. I especially want to hear "meet cute" stories. And it doesn't have to be your actual current sig/other. Perhaps the "meet cute" story is a former boy/girlfriend... or even a best friend. Illustrate with photos, of course.

When it comes to “meet cute” this story is just made for it;

Picture this a romantic setting on a tropical island, a warm evening with a gentle sea breeze just enough to make the palm trees whisper their secrets.

Onto this canvas now lets paint a young couple who have just recently met and are busy with the process of falling in love, our romantic setting takes the shape of a resort with waterside bungalows and a wonderful restaurant where they are presently enjoying a fabulous meal with a bottle of red wine to finish it off.

Now picture them strolling along the waters edge under a full moon happily planning the next few days together and hinting that perhaps it will be more than that…. maybe even a life time.

Buuzzz, Buuzzz, Buuuzzz, that’s the bloody alarm clock going off, time to wake up and smell the exhaust fumes, who the hell lives that kind of live in the real world.

I did say that the story above was just made for it, I could have added just made up for it, my real life entry would say something like, we met after a Tom Jones concert “It’s Not Unusual” followed by a few tentative dates while we sized each other up and decided that as there was nothing better on offer perhaps we should,,,,,, well you know how it goes.

The first story was an effort to paint an exotic picture and the second one was a fairly typical male simplification of what really happened, suffice to say the ensuing marriage lasted for nearly 25 years before it crumbled to dust, much to my dismay.

Ah, back in the good old "Clingy" days.

That's a nice pic, Peter. I met mr. kenju on a blind date. He was playing basketball (for the Navy) and I went to watch and we went out afterward, with friends. Six months (almost to the day) later - we married. I'll see if I can find a photo of when we were dating (there aren't many).

What a wonderful photo!
You both WERE clingy and smiley too!!
This is a great idea to write about how you met.
I will add this to my blog ideas for the future.
BTW, I met my hubby after he saw me singing at this exhibition thing at a conference. He called to see if I wanted to audition for a traveling summer band that he was managing. That's how we met, and we toured together that summer and were engaged by summer's end. Ahhhhh... young love...

I met this lady in a hotel, and within 2 hours I was sure I was going to marry her. And we did.

Ya can't trust a redhead!

What a handsome couple you were.
I was all caught up in the romance until you coughed on the exhaust.

What a corker!

That is a very sweet picture. I like the first story but as you say its not very typical.

The second story is much more believable, even with the crappy ending. Mine wasn't romantic at all, but here we are 15 years later. If life was all romance, what the hell would we go see at the movies???

Fun post, Peter. :)

I don't think I've every been "clingy"...perhaps that's my problem!!!

Great photo! I thought the first story rather boring. We've all seen that movie. Now the second one had a little more color. Sorry it didn't last.

Peter,
I am sorry about the crumbling. I enjoyed your post. You had me going with the water's edge and the full moon.

..........alarm clock? Alarm Clock? Are you serious? Wow, did you ever have me panting. Too bad life got in the way, huh?

Cute photo tho. But, no, really....I wanna smash that ol' alarm clock. Where is it?

What can I say? The dream was just that.

The reality was just that.

The smiles and clings were just that.

The good times were just that.

The 25 years were just that.

It is possible to last for more, but it takes work.

We met on a blind date arranged by my brother and his wife of the time. Ours is still going strong after 40 years. It wasn't all roses. I did have some growing up to do. And, it was just that.

I'm with everyone else. You had me sighing Ahhs, then crumble. Willowtree has it right: don't trust red heads.

I wonder how different your account of meeting would be if you were still together? Or if there was someone new?

I'm sorry your marriage didn't last, but hopefully you had some fun while you were in it (the picture says that you did).

Thanks for sharing. You have more courage than I do - I did NOT share any of the crumbled ones!

25 years is a long time to be with someone! I'm sad to hear it crumbled to dust.

Okay, the first story would have made me vomit. But just a little, in my mouth.

And sorry to hear about the marriage - but you have a LOT of life left to live!

OMG gullible thy name is Joy! I'm not into gushy mushy but I thought that was sounding pretty cool. Til the buzzing of the alarm. Gah! The pic is great, obviously some fun times. Sorry it didn't work out.

Second story is kind of sad because your marriage crumbled. I hope you still have a lot of happy memories.

I knew the first story was a ruse, you being a guy and all. I think the second one is more fitting of a guy albeit a little over the top in lack of detail. Still, in reading my and Sirdar's version of our story, it is apparent who wears the pants in our house (Sirdar--just removing any doubt). Sorry things didn't work out. Fun Photo though. Happy Fun Monday.

The first part was a good visual. Too bad about the alarm. Also too bad things didn't end in a good note. Next time it will hopefully end better.

My story starts with me noticing this really cute and well built girl. We were at a college dance. She wasn't wearing any clothes. Because I had mentally removed everything she had on...
36 years and not dressed yet.

Loved the first story, reminded me of martinique, but of course that wasn't reality.

We are still in the clingy years however mundane our lives might be, but we are happy with our boring, mundane life.

Love the pictures.

I met my husband when I was 13. Had a crush on him. We dated when I was 16. Ran into him again 22 years later and found out from everyone around that he'd carried a torch for me all that time, despite marrying and divorcing another woman (who resembled me). I had to admit that the only reason I avoided him during his marriage was because I was afraid I'd fall for him again. So I did, and we did, and we spent the rest of his life together.

Thats a nice picture of the two of you.
We meet our partners where ever fate brings us.
I met minew in at the pub and got her drunk then told her when she woke up we got married.

17 years later she found out different LOL
