Adelaide, Capital City SA.

A quick look around Adelaide before I leave SA.

Please click on photos to enbiggen.

There is a weekly indoor Sunday Market in the old Port Adelaide area, it is held in an enormous old warehouse and is very popular and well patronized. I spent about an hour browsing happily among the thousands of books heaped so casually on the tables at this stall.

The warehouse is about 150 yards long and 50 yards wide with a second floor level around the sides, a lot of the stall holders leave their stock there permanently rather than pack it all up at the close of the day, thus the stalls are in the main jammed full of whatever goods they sell, one of the better market places I've been to.

We came across this note left out for the Junk Mail deliverer while on a Sunday drive.

In case some of you are not familiar with "Junk Mail" it is the advertising brochures put into suburban letter boxes on a weekly delivery run, the only protection from this onslaught is to put a sign on your letter box which states "No Junk Mail" the letter box above must have been protected by such a sign by the previous tenant!!!

A sample of the brochures that arrive sometimes twice a week at the Foster unit.

This monument, looking very much like the leaning tower of Pizza is on our regular route to the clinic, it is odd in that so many of the surfaces and planes are on an angle that it looks in some danger of toppling over.

In fact though all the vertical walls are straight as is the right hand side of the spire, there are many sloping surfaces and the left hand side of the spire is also sloped creating the illusion that everything is off square, just why anyone would build a monument that created this illusion is more than I can work out!!!!!

Very interesting post. I love you photos. The market sounds fascinating, especially for a book lover. We get a lot of junk mail, here in the states, we don't have an opt-out, option. That building is a work of art. I don't understand it either, but it sure is interesting.

Have a great trip home.

I wish it were that easy to eliminate junk mail here in the States!

I use my junk mail to start fires. (in my fireplace)

I think we can contact the companies that send out the catalogs and be removed from the mailing lists.

I like that crazy looking building. It looks like a crooked church. tee hee.

Looks like a very interesting market ! I love markets, each sunday when it's not raining I go to the big (over 400 stalls) market in Brussels. Just to walk around and smell the international athmosphere.
I have put a "stop junkmail" sticker on our letter box. It was always full with unuseless papers !

Great post. Love the photos as usual.

There is no accounting for the taste of some folks. At least the illusion of leaning got it some attention. Perhaps that was the designers desire.

It is nice to find a place that calls you back.

Jane loves junk mail, so I give all mine to her.

Adelaide is one city I would love to visit as it's supposed to be rather beautiful with some outstand churches and architecture. If that optical illusion sculpture is anything to go by, there should be some pretty interesting buildings around.

Wow, I could spend some time in that Sunday Market!! What an array of things to browse through! So many books! It'd sure take me longer than an hour in that place!!

So glad to hear that Vicki is doing better!!

Wow! That is quite the market place. We went to the local (well the closest we could find which is inland about 20 minutes drive) and it is rather small. I also bought books for the boys for school work and some incense.

Oh, Peter,
It's places like that big market with all those books that makes me want to come visit Australia. You always show things that interest me. I'd even like to see all the leaning structures.
:-)
How funny that the tenant is begging for catalogues. More junk mail, please! I've not seen that before.

:-)

I am so happy to read in your previous post that Vicki's general health has improved. I know you've been a GREAT support to her!!!!
God continue to bless her and restore her health.

We have to take our junk mail. Then we burn it.
I loved the market. What a great idea.
I'm with you on the monument. It's clearly out our whack. No doubt built by someone from our congressional delegation.

That market is really nice. I bet it is a lot of fun.
Wish we could put up a sign that says no junk mail - it would have really been handy during the election.

That market is amazing Peter...what a great place.

Don't get me started on junk mail sweet guy. God...we get loads of it here too. I wish we could put a sign out saying "No Thanks." That would never work here in the states.

Glad to hear Vicki is doing better Peter...always good news sweet guy. Take care of yourself. Hugs, Joy
