More flooding

I have referred to Australia as the driest continent on Earth a few times in the past and for one reason and another I felt that I should check my facts, Australia is the driest inhabited continent with only Antarctica being drier.
The main reason that I make mention of this is that during 2011 and 2012 there has been unprecedented floods over the Eastern States (Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland) the rain that has caused these floods has been relentless and has set new records in many places, again there is a reason I mention this, since the terms "Global Warming" and "Climate Change" became part of our language in the last decade or so Australia seems to have been getting wetter in a big way.
Perhaps its just my interpretation of "Global Warming" that is wrong? but I fully expected that our constant drought situation would become worse not the reverse situation that we are getting.
OK that's Australia, but it seems almost every day there are news reports of "Extreme Weather" conditions somewhere in the world, lots of other countries have experienced extremes of one kind or another, floods, blizzards, tsunamis, earthquakes and the list goes on, there must be lots of people wondering whether our weather is changing in the ways we expected???
Just wonderin'.
