This series of BIG THINGS has been fun but there comes
a time when enough is enough.
How could we have anything
but our big rock to begin this
post, Ayers Rock or Uluru is
the best know symbol of
Australia in the world.
Located in a remote corner of
the NT, it still attracts more
visitors than any other single
spot in Australia.
The Big Merino, there are
actually two of these, this one
is at Wagin in WA, the other one is at Hollbrook NSW.
For many years Australia "rode on the sheeps back," with
wool as our main export, this was before the mineral
boom that has changed that forever.
The Big Bannana, at Coffs Harbor in NSW was the start of
our obsession with this BIG craze, it has been around for
over 40 years now and still attracts crowds to and
through it, you enter at one end and exit the other.
The Big Pineapple, this is located at Nambour in Qld. and
was the second of the well known BIGGIES.
The pineapple house an educational display to do with
growing pineapples and other tropical fruits, there is a
huge shop and resturant behind it, and a mini train that
takes tourists for a sight seeing tour around the orchard
area that surrounds it, after some 30 years it also still
attracts huge crowds and dozens of tourist busses each day.

I never know until I get to mine.
I feel for you having to wear a cardigan and jeans. Our minimum temp predicted
is 0 degrees and top of 14. So as well as a heater, I have more clothes on than

I've never gone out of my way to visit fruit, Peter. Interesting concept.
And I thought everything was big in Texas. It seems the phrase should be everything's big in Australia.
Peter ~ The "things" may be BIG, but the pictures are small. I always thought that the Sydney Opera House was the most recognizable symbol of Australia, in the world, but if you use NATURAL wonders, then I think you are correct. I did NOT see any of these four while there, maybe NEXT time! ~ jb///

Near Detroit here, they have a three-story tire next to an expressway. That figures, since Detroit is the home of the automobile. I guess the tire was once displayed at a World's Fair.
I'd like to walk throught that big banana. Fun!
The pineapple would be neat to see too.
