The Ladies in my life

......The Ladies in my life...................

<>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>To this.

and pretty much whatever is in between
too.

Ah, twas not to be, West Coast won the Grand Final by one
point, impossible to get any closer than that! it was an
excellent game and a fitting final for two great sides.

Football Fever.

Before I launch todays post let me take a moment to mention that
today is "Grand Final" day for the Australian Football League (AFL)
We embrace 4 different codes of football as a nation, but Aussie
Rules (AFL) being the code that was started here in the late 1800s
is the one that draws the big crowds and is the most spectacular.
Last years Grand Final resulted in a win by the narrowest margin to
the Sydney Swans over the West Coast Eagles a side from Perth
WA. these same two teams meet again in todays contest, while I
don't support either team I hope Sydney can win again as not
many teams throughout the games history have won back to back
premiership flags.
Our second most popular code is Rugby League, their Grand Final
is being played tomorrow evening, in this one I have a definite
favourite the Brisbane Broncos being a Queensland side are my
chance to make up for the Brisbane Lions (my side in the AFL)
having such a disasterous season this year.
Our other Codes of football by the way are Rugby Union and Soccer,
there is a smattering of interest in Gridiron and Gaelic football as well.

CARN THE SWANS. (carn is "come on" Australianised)

CARN THE BRONCOS.

I borrowed the idea for this post from Jim and as well as the song he chose to wrap his Ladies in I am also using one by Australian artist Troy Cassar-Daly it’s called ;

The Ladies In My Life.

Five years old and I’m off to school
With Grandma right behind
I near the gate with my little bag
And then I start to cry.

She said “I can’t teach you like they will in school
So go ahead and learn
I’ll see you at home when the bell rings son”
You know, I still dream about her.

My Mother worked on the railroad
She did for sixteen years
That dining car was a testing ground
For plans and dreams and tears

She said “I carried you in my body
And I carried you in my arms
And rest assured for the rest of my life
I’ll carry you in my heart.”

These ladies of my life
That have taught me so much
About how to stand up proud and tall
And how to have a sensitive touch.

From here on ever after
Through happiness and strife
I’ll have so much owing to
These ladies in my life.

I’m walking through my front door
And lo, what do I see
My beautiful wife with a baby girl
Sitting on her knee.

Those little blue eyes light up like stars
When I walk into the room
We’ll tuck you in bed my little girl
And you can dream about the moon.

These ladies in my life
That have taught me so much
About how to stand up proud and tall
And how to have a sensitive touch.

From here on ever after
Through happiness and strife
I’ll have so much owing to
These ladies in my life.

To All The Girls I've Loved Before.

To all the girls I've loved before
Who traveled in and out my door
I'm glad they came along
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've loved before.

To all the girls I once caressed
And may I say I've held the best
For helping me to grow
I owe a lot I know
To all the girls I've loved before
.
The winds of change are always blowing
And every time I try to stay
The winds of change continue blowing
And they just carry me away.

To all the girls who shared my life
Who now are someone else's wives
I'm glad they came along
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've loved before.

To all the girls who cared for me
Who filled my nights with ecstasy
They live within my heart
I'll always be a part
Of all the girls I've loved before.

The winds of change are always blowing
And every time I try to stay
The winds of change continue blowing
And they just carry me away.

To all the girls I've loved before
Who traveled in and out our doors
I’m glad they came along
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've loved before.

To all the girls I've loved before
Who traveled in and out our doors
I’m glad they came along
I dedicate this song
To all the girls I've loved before.

lyrics by Hal David

The Ladies of my life.

To the first love of my life, my Mother, this is a naturally occurring thing that for me waned a little in my “know everything years” as a teenager but came back on track as I matured.

During my childhood there was another constant girl in my life, my Sister Merle, we had a somewhat “Cat and Dog” relationship as kids, but again as we matured we have become very good friends.

My maternal Grandmother known as Aya to the family was another favourite, Aya used to tell us ghost stories at night and I just loved being scared out of my wits by these tales, nearly always set in the “Bush” and always first hand accounts.

My Mother had seven Sisters, six of whom we saw quite often, they were all my favourite Aunts and the next set of Ladies in my life, the seventh Sister I only ever met once and she seemed to be just as nice as the others.

My Dad by contrast had five Brothers who provided me with another five Aunts, we didn’t see anywhere near as much of these Aunts though so the bond never got to be as strong.

The same with my Paternal Grandmother, I only knew her very slightly so the bond there was not as strong as with Aya.

With all those Uncles and Aunties back in the days, before television, as you might imagine I wound up with a LOT of Cousins fifty six in total thirty one of whom were girls, so they became the next lot of Ladies in my life, there were a few favourites in this group too, as well as some I barely knew, but it will serve no purpose to list them so they are part of that group of Ladies in my life.

There were a couple of very minor infatuations in my early years, but until my first “Date” with a lovely young girl named Glenda there were no further additions to my Ladies, in truth had it not been that Glenda was the first “date” she would probably not have got her place on the list either as we spent such a short time together.

The next one on the list was not until in my late teens I met the girl who was to be my first wife and Mother of my four children, Jacqui, was the next Lady of my life and she provided the one to follow as well, this was of course my wonderful Daughter Vicki.

As happens all to often my marriage was not one of the “till death do us part” kind, so into my life came the next Lady, Julie and I were married, mainly happily, for 24 years so she has a special place in my list of Ladies in my life.

My three Sons provided me with three Daughters in law as well so they must take their rightful place as Ladies of my life too.

Re-marriage brought another special Lady into my life, my Dad married a lovely lady who became more of a friend than a Step Mother to me.

Some twenty two years ago my children started to provide the next crop of Ladies for me in the form of Granddaughters, there are four of these gems, no longer children all are young ladies now, as well two of my Grandsons have married thus adding two more Ladies to my life.

I also have two Nieces, Merle’s Daughters that have been a part of my life for a long time now, my count is sixty three at this stage and although some of those couldn’t in honesty be called close they still make up the web of Ladies in my life.

Hi Peter -- Liked the Ladies post. You did it all in one post, I had the idea to do a whole blog but haven't time to go far.
Have you seen it?

To All the Girls I've Loved Before
Maybe I should sum things up like you did. I do have most of them listed in the index.
I like the way Willie Nelson sings that song.

Engineers and farmers both wear boots, only the farmer wears the manure on the outside of his boots.
