Fun Monday Jan.14

Ann @ For the long run is our host this week;

Here are Da rules;

Now, the reason you're here: the topic for Fun Monday on
14 January. I want to hear about a web site and not just
about any old web site. I want to hear about a web site that's
changed your life.

Too easy Ann, you are looking at it right now… “Holtieshouse”… before you all jump on me for being so conceited as to think my own little Blog could be a life changing web site, let me explain.

It’s rapidly approaching three years ago now since my middle son Marcus created a Blog site, when he told me about it I thought, “what a neat idea, I wonder whether I could do that” you see I’m the perfect example of the horrors of unskilled labour, a self taught amateur geek.

So I set out with absolutely no idea what I was doing and thanks to the help of the much maligned team at Blogger I managed to create my very own Blog, yes the very one you are now reading, that was all very well but I had no idea what I was going to do with it… it had been the technical challenge rather than a desire to write or be read that had inspired me.

Having always been fond of a joke and being blessed with a warped sense of humour I quickly fell into a pattern of telling a few jokes and spinning a hopefully funny tale every now and again… it hasn’t changed all that much really, probably not as funny now, but we try.

From this very humble base has grown the web site that is so important in my life, certainly not because it contains any gems of wisdom or gifted content… No, simply because it puts me into the center of a group of wonderful individuals who I have grown to think of as my friends,

We as Bloggers have a unique place in history, never before has it been possible to communicate instantly with people all over the world about any subject we choose, and because we tend to congregate in groups with like interests, to very quickly become “friends” with these people that we will probably never meet.

If there is a more life changing Web Site out there than this I’ve not yet found it and given the amount of time I spend here I probably never will.

Go and check out some of the other favourite web sites listed at Ann's site.

Love those cartoons, Peter, and I stole both of them.

Ditto to everything in your post. I like that I have so many friends in foreign countries. You're MY MAN in Australia, and I know if I were to travel there, we could meet and have a good time together. Same for you in NC, USA!

Well said, Peter, I agree with you entirely.

We have become a close knit group, so much so that when I was without my computer, I felt totally isolated. Sad, isn't it? But I really enjoy reading about what everyone's been doing, sharing the good times, the losses and the not so good times. After all, isn't that what friends do? Doesn't matter if we haven't met them personally, does it? It still works the same.

Good post, Peter.

Wait a minute. Is it Monday over there already? It's still Sunday over here in the USA. I guess it's too late to join. I did go to Ann's site. She looks fairly imposing in that body armor of her's, so I didn't comment. But I was intrigued that someone would give up Lake Michigan for Ireland, so I'll have to stop back some time there.

Ditto from this corner as well Peter. Where else could you meet such an interesting group of people by just htting "Publish"!

I said the same thing - however, you said it with much more flair

yup -- glad to be your friend Peter!

Warped sense of humour you say? Well that's it, I'm visiting more often :o) A great post and certainly not conceited.

Oh you are so right! I think every blogger would have to agree with you. In regards to own blogs of course, not that yours isn't fantastic.

I agree with you, blogging has changed my life completely and I dropped in there without knowing anything because of an Egyptian cat godess website, lol !

I would NOT think it's conceited. It's being truthful, and I have to agree that a blog certainly opened a whole new life changing experience for all of who do.

Your Fun Monday is excellent, as always Peter.

[ps...love the "I love my computer because all my friends live in it" is fantastic. May I grab it or is it copyrighted in some way?]

Very well said! Love the computer cartoon. I have to admit I was one of those who said I would never get addicted to a computer, look at me now. LOL! Love the blogging world and the friends I have made.

What a lovely post, Peter. Apparently you have a big heart behind that warped sense of humor.

What a great post! It is amazing how you can become such good friends with people you've never met.

Thanks for blogging for us to get to know you.

A place to sit and talk to the world is life changing especially when the world talks back to you.
I am happy to be reading what you write.

Well, my blog wasn't my only one listed, it wasn't even the first one listed, but you articulated well why I had to at least mention it. We DO spend a lot of time reading, writing and whatevering w/regard to our blogs, so they HAVE changed our lives (the way we spend our time!).

Well said!

;) I bet we ALL feel it is our OWN blog/website that has changed our life the most!

...But, Peter, I gotta give YOU a lot of credit for helping me along this path...and helping me understand how to do things here! I know of several others you helped, too!

...So-I have to say 'Holtieshouse' is a VERY Important blog site for me! :)

You are so right - and not pretentious or conceited at all! I forget that blogging has changed my life - and you are so right about how it has widened my circle of friends. SO different than other mediums - great choice!

You are not conceited if you can back it up. You have obviously done well learning to blog and set up your site just the way you like it. Congrats. I might just have to come back and check your site out more often :-)

I am so new to this blogger thing. You have lots of stuff I must share with my co-workers (steathly of course, through bathroom stalls). You have a great site. You are my hero. NLM

Peter said...

Wouldn't ya know it... I get to be somebody's hero and I can't make contact with them coz they haven't ticked YES to the first two questions in "Settings" "Basic" unless you want to be invisible to other bloggers.... WHY???.... you should click these questions with YES. and "Anyone" in comments.

Yes--dittos to what you say. ;-)

Oh I am definitely with you on this one. I have not been blogging as long as you but have made so many friends.

I love the little cartoon at the top too.
