Fun Monday Feb 11

Hostess is Crown Princess at;

here’s da rules

Music plays a vital role in most of our lives. It is everywhere. I want to hear the ONE song that is you. The song that whenever it is heard, you smile. I am not looking for the soundtrack of your life, just that one song. Your friends hear it and think of you. You can post the video, the lyrics, the wav file. However you want to post it is great.

This assignment has caused me more concern and delay than most of the recent weeks, not because I'm not a music fan, rather the opposite if anything, you see I own a collection of a tad over 1,300 CDs.

Within this collection there can be found almost any type of music you can think of although there is a heavy weighting of “Country” please don’t embellish country with other words like, and Western, Rock, Blues etc. my kids do enough of that.

As well as Country though there is plenty of Rock & Roll, Big Band Music, Light Classical, Popular music, even some Christmas Music and film scores, then there's some Billy Connolly and Jeff Foxworthy too.

So when it comes to ONE song that defines me to myself or friends about as close as I could get to that would be; it would probably be something Country by any of the following artists; From Oz…. Slim Dusty, John Williamson, Beccy Cole, Lee Kernaghan, Sara Storer….. From overseas… Alan Jackson, George Strait, Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton, LeAnn Rimes.

However should you catch me in a non-country moment it could be The Beatles, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Celine Dion, Ella Fitzgerald or Pavrotti.

I am not going to post a video or music clip as I think if we all did that the normal 2 days of looking through other entries would drag out to most of the week and who has that time available?

This photo shows most of my CDs (BTW I've pretty much given up buying them now as I'll never be able to listen to all I have now before last weeks bucket comes around.

Now go and visit some more people you'll find on Crown Princess' list.

Yep, Peter, I'd have just as many CD's as you do (as you well know) and I'm darned if I'd try to pick one that is me. Hey maybe Curly from the Three Stooges....woowoowoowoowoo!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who is finding this week difficult. I'm dithering around I have two draft posts so will decide tomorrow (our Monday)when I come to publish it!

That looks very much like my bedroom with CD's and DVD's on shelves all over. I've decided to stop buying any more DVD's. I'm already a mini-Blockbuster. But CD's....now that's going to be an addiction that's a little harder to break. As much as I LOVE movies...I just HAVE to have my music. BTW...there's no way I can pick ONE song that is ME...not without having a brain aneurysm.

Holy cow - you could start your own radio station with that lot! Do you sit to listen or are they background for your life?

P.S. - love your curtains!

That is a very impressive collection. I can't blame you for not being able to pick one.

I had a really difficult time with this week's challenge too. I narrowed mine down to 4 songs but I could have listed hundreds.

I thought I had a lot of CD's until I saw your collection. That's impressive!

Yet, I wish you would tell us what you are listening to right now.

WOW, that is a lot of CD's. Thank you for playing and enjoy listening to some tunes this week.

Oh My Goodness, look at all your music! I love music too and a big variety of music. Lot's of times I speak in lyrics with my friends. Enjoy your listening...

Do you listen to the same ones over and over or do you actually listen to each and every CD in rotation? Just nosy - really none of my business.

I have been collecting music since 78s and 45s. I sold many of my vinyl LPs but kept the cassettes. And yes, like many of the rest of us, I have hundreds of CDs, but they are now in boxes. I went through the painstaking task last year of copying ALL of my CDs to a huge external hard drive and transferring them to my IPod. At last count, I have about 27,000 songs, 175 genres, 2,375 artists for over 100 gig of music. the funny thing is that I continue to download music - is that sick or what? And yes, how to pick just ONE song.... I chose two... NLM.

I had a tough time with this too, and I don't have nearly the amount of music you do!

You nicely turned around the meme, lol ! I am in the same case, nobody ever would think about me when they here a song, yes maybe if a cat sings . I love the same kind of music as you. I never relate a song to something nice it's only sad things I remember with a song, I don't know why.

Wow you have a lot of cd's! I have a few but tend to be a radio listener or Rapsody which has my playlist and I can add the songs I want all the time.

WOW!!!!
And I shall call You the Music Man!!

I have a collection of approximately 20 CD's and thought I was a real rebel for having so many. Ya. Not so much. It's nice to see someone enjoy music so much. I have a friend who barely listens to music and it's something I just don't understand.

That MUST be some kind of "Metric 1400" trick or something.... holy COW!

I don't know if I own 10 CD's... I mostly listen to the radio, or just go find great music on Youtube and put it in my playlist there.

It was soooo odd for a minute to think of Willie Nelson and LeAnn Rimes as being from overseas! Love your library!

Your cd collection looks just like my husband's.

holy cow. do you like music, peter?

Wow- you have a lot of CD's! You're right too- it's going to take a long time to watch everyone videos!

Jenni said...

That is an impressive collection! You have great taste in music, too. I'm not so sure about Celine Dion any more since I saw this video, though. http://youtube.com/watch?v=nLMpJnqNz0E
Sure, she has a great voice, but this is an abomination!

That's a lot of CDs. I bet you have a wonderful assortment from your choices.

This was a hard topic, but fun.

WOW 1300? I only own about three that are for me (and about 10 kid songs ones)..one being Frank Sinatra. I love that you have such varied taste.

Linda said...

Hah! You think thats a lot - my father in law is a recovering DJ and he has vinyl mind you - big ole vinyl records lining all four walls of a big room! Mostly doo wop and the people that perform in Branson, but still - quite a lot.

Interesting collection. I have only between 400 and 500 CDs and now wonder what I am going to do with them as I don't really listen to them that much. I thought of converting them to AAC and then maybe selling them. Hard to say what I will do....I also have a box of records too but no player to play them...not that I can actually find them. My musical taste lean toward hard rock...but I have discovered many other types that I am starting to like....like jazz. Who knew I would like that? Oh well. My kids listen to country...so I get enough of that.

Awesome collection!!

The LeAnne Rimes version of How Do I Live is absolutely one of my faves!

Alison said...

I am with you on the music collection...also, my favorite song changes day to day and mood to mood!!!

Well, I guess I can't complain about NLM's obsession with music now. You guys should get into a contest and literally count the number of songs you both have. I'll stick to my little Shuffle. It holds enough for me. :)

karisma said...

OMG, Peter, that Cd collection scares me! And from such a computer literate fellow too! Have you not heard of down loads? You sound like me in your variations, however, where is the classical, do you not like just music? I suppose, one could call Pavarotti classical but I was referring to just the piano. Mmmmmm

Walker said...

WHOA you got me beat ten times over.

With the site you coudl download from now or just buy that one song you want is alot easier than the collections we used to have.
I still have about 400 albums and 900 movies and some 8 tracks LOL

Irish Coffeehouse said...

WOW! That's one mighty musical collection. Mine isn't nearly as large as yours, but mine also encompasses a large span of genres.

JunieRose2005 said...

For a long time-I could be identified just with Dan Fogelberg's music...
but the past 3 years I have been on a music adventure that covers a LOT more ground...

I also have a huge collection of cds and albums!
