Comparing Apples with Apples.

Please excuse my lack of posts recently, I have been busy converting several thousand slides to digital images as this task is progressing I am thankful that I am doing it before further damage to the slides occurs, even though they had been stored in practically dark conditions for most of their 25/30 year lifetime there has been substantial deterioration of some slides, so my efforts have been in some restoration work as well.
Just to complicate my life a little more I have been bitten by the Apple Mac bug (serves me right for messing about with so many photos) after an initial foray to the local Apple shop, where I was suitably shocked by the price of Mac's I ventured onto eBay for a look around, I came across a S/H 17" iMac.... in Adelaide... of all places, long story short, I bought it for just $560 and Vicki is picking it up next week!!!!!
Dah Dah.... its her 50th birthday on July 11 so guess who might be going to Adelaide AGAIN soon????
There is an element of doubt about this trip as I have an appointment next week with my eye surgeon to see whether I have to have cataracts removed from my eyes, as I already postponed this because I was in Adelaide when the appointment fell due I don't want to put it off again unless I have to....
so it goes, as my good friend "Ol' horse tailed snake" used to say.

This is an Apple promotional photo of the iMac range, the one on the left is the 17" model, everything is built into the monitor housing much the same as with a laptop but with a keyboard and mouse.

To compensate for the time I'm not spending blogging, here are a couple of things I've received lately that have tickled my fancy (again with the tickled fancy Pamela)

This one from my friend Lyle.

Don't tell me your age; you probably would tell a falsehood anyway

-but the Hershey Man will know! YOUR AGE BY CHOCOLATE MATH

This is pretty neat.

DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
It takes less than a minute .
Work this out as you read ..
Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
This is not one of those waste of time things, it's fun.

1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would like to have chocolate (more than once but less than 10)

2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)

3. Add 5

4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator

5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1759 ..
If you haven't, add 1758.

6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.

You should have a three digit number

The first digit of this was your original number
(i.e., how many times you want to have chocolate each week)..

The next two numbers are

YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)

This ultimately sensible plan came to me via blog friend Robyn.

Dear Mr. Swan, (Australian Treasurer)

Please find below my suggestion for fixing Australia's economy:

Instead of giving billions of dollars to banks that will squander the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 10? million people over 50 in the work force. Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Ten million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new Australian CAR. Ten million cars ordered - Auto Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing Crisis fixed.

4) They must send their kids or grandchildren to school / college /university - Crime rate fixed

5) Buy average levels of alcohol / tobacco a week, so there's your money back in duty / tax etc

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members of parliament pay back their falsely claimed expenses and allowances.

Please feel free to substitute your country for Australia, I'm confident it will work anywhere in the world.

Isn't Ebay wonderful, Peter? I'm presently looking for a DSLR camera. You scored a good buy with the Mac. BTW, thanks for the comment on Part 2 of my weekend away. I hadn't looked at it like that before, but...you're right.

Hi Peter! Both you and Vicki will enjoy the MAC's!!! That is, if you end up getting another! Life is short, why not? :)

I did the math thing and it worked out just right. Amazing how it does that!

Better get your eyes taken care of!

Hi Peter ~~ Sorry to hear you have cataracts pending. I hope you can get to Vicki's 50th though. Guess you would fly, surely.
Thanks for your comment about the
oil in the ear, from way back. I have
a heat pack you warm up in the microwave and hold it over the ear
and happily it worked with only 24 hours of pain. Take care, Love, Merle

congrats on the new Mac - I have one and I love it! I hope all goes well with your eyes - cataract surgery is pretty routine these days so you should do well.
