I love a sunburnt country. A land of sweeping plains. Of ragged mountain ranges. Of droughts and flooding rains.

Cattle Muster
I found this interesting and thought maybe some of my readers would like to see the scale of an Australian Cattle Station.
A recent muster saw 2452 cattle loaded into 17 double decker 3 trailer Road Trains at Helen Springs Station in the Northern Territory, this station covers some 5000 square Kms and carries up to 25,000 cattle.
Please click on photos to enbiggen
The 17 road trains lined up ready to come into the loading area.
As you can see its pretty wide open country up there.
The lead trucks are at the loading ramp here.
Still most of the mob are in the holding yards, each truck holds about 145 cattle and they reach the wharf at Darwin in about 6 hours.
Its just a dot on the map.... A Big Country!!!

WOW!!
Texans will have to tone down their brag on cattle ranching after seeing this.
I would hate to be following that "train" down the highway.
Wow.........
I am truly impressed. Wow!
There was movement at the station for the word had passed around...
Wow, that is some wide open country and lots of trucks! I have never seen a double decker truck that hauls livestock like that.
Very interesting!!!
Hi Peter ~~ A good informative post
that even I found interesting. Have to add the word WOW as it seems to
be the one to describe the cattle trains.
Have you rung Geoff yet? Gordon says he sounds good and chatty.
Cheers, Merle.
WOW is right. The wide-open spaces you have are mind-boggling!!
I love the Northern Territory for that reason...the vastness of it. I also love the open highway where no speed limit is set. Just put your foot down and go...
Gday Peter, very imformative post theres a lot of people out there that dont relize our vast open country. I miss our traveling days. Ohh those big rigs were smelly as you passed them by and nearly always a few in a row, thank heaven for the open roads to be able to pass those big buggers.
Now THAT'S what I call a convoy
Poor cows! I dream of moving to the country but I think I would like somewhere a little greener! Not enough trees up there!
I've worried about the cattle -- they go all that distance without water? .. poooping in each other's faces? sigh.
