The week after Christmas

Oh woe is me I seem to have lost my Guest Book which had been signed 94 times the last
time I can remember checking... I was looking forward to the number reaching 100....
The code is still on my template so who knows, one day it might come back??

Yah, its back and it now has 101 signatures Thank you 101 times!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What you see isn't always what you get.

While this was
obviously written
by/for a woman the
concept fits a man

just as well, so whether

you are male or female if you are one of the many who overate this festive season...
here's your poem!!

‘Twas the week after Christmas.

‘Twas the week after Christmas and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I’d nibble, the eggnog I’d taste
All the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales, there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk more a lumber.)
I’d remember the marvelous meals I’d prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared…

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way that I’d never said, “No, thank you, please.”
As I dressed myself in my husband’s old shirt
And prepared once again to battle the dirt…

I said to myself, as only I can,
“You can’t spend the winter dressed like a man!”
So away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip.

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
‘Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won’t have a cookie, not even a lick,
I’ll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won’t have hot biscuits, or cornbread, or pie,
I’ll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I’m hungry, I’m lonesome, and life is a bore…
But isn’t that what January is for?

Unable to giggle,
No longer a riot
Happy new years to all
And to all a good diet.

New Years Day Reflections.

Hey could there be some truth in the rumor that I’m gettin’ old?

Well I did have two Grand-daughters get married this year.

Well my oldest “child” turned 50 this year.

Well I did have eye surgery to remove a pteryguim (growth) from my left eye.

On the plus side, I still managed to drive across the country for

the two Weddings, which were only a week apart and only one

state apart (Two VERY big States though).

I managed to fly across the country for Alan’s birthday.

Despite my worst fears, I can still see out of my left eye, no better than it was but no worse either.

I managed to grab a two week vacation with Wazza, a great “tourist” trip to Sydney.

Twice during the year my 1st wife Jacqui our four kids and myself were all in the same place at the
same time, the last time that happened was when Marcus and Carolyn were married.

Speaking of which, their oldest son Zachariah returned home from England after spending two years
there (Zac is 20 now).

Managed to get through the year without losing any close friends and only two cousins.

I am still driving the same Subaru wagon, approaching a record period of ownership for me.

As well as the immediate family I also managed to visit briefly with a lot of my long term friends,
my 2nd EX, and my Sister.

I have managed to retain the same athletic body that I have had for the last few years, it hasn’t
been easy, if it were not for the many fine Bakeries spread through the land I may have failed
at this.

We are still being held up at nozzle point by the Oil Companies each time we venture into their
territory, currently $1.30 per liter on average in Queensland…. much more in other States.

As well as Petrol, we are currently paying record high prices for fruit and vegetables and meat.

On the political arena, we have a change in Federal Government, the first in 11 years, and with
the retirement of the Queensland Premier we have inherited the first female Premier in the States
history, neither of these changes have been in force for long so there is very little apparent
change noticeable yet.

Although we had a brief minor flooding of the Mary River here at Gympie much of the State
is still gripped by drought and indeed the water storage Dams are still at all time lows.

We are experiencing quite a cool start to the New Year with cloud and rainy weather instead
of hot and humid like normal, the seasons are changing with the earths warming and severe
weather changes are becoming more the norm.

Hi Peter ~~ Enjoyed the Poem ~ 'Twas
the Week after Christmas ~~ too true.
Also enjoyed your reflections of 2007 - you sure did some travelling. I hope you get your Guest map back as it was good and I thought it had 96 the other day. Are you
fixing my header? ~ ~ it looks nice at the moment, but one day there was only about an inch of the bottom of photo, another day about 1" of the top. Or is it just happening? I am still catching up with everyone. Take care, stay well Love, Merle.

Peter,

Seeing as you had a head start over us in the U.S. to ring in the New Year, it'll be the 2nd when you read this comment.

You had quite a year in '07. I wish you more of the same in '08 - but don't stop there.

Boy, I feel like that Poem today after my New Years Eve! *LOL*

I'm glad things went well for you in 2007 Peter, and I hope 2008 is even better!

Yes, 2007 was good for you and that pleases me. It was for me, too and now I am looking forward to all your 2008 blogs.

The poem is an absolute delight and oh so true of this household. We took time to put some of the candies in small refrigerator bags and hide them in the freeer with the promise to each other that we will only take one bag out each month. Right! I wonder which of us will break that promise first. LOL
