Here’s da rules.

I will host Fun Monday on June 16th. The subject is walls. We all have walls of some sort. What I want to hear about and see, if you're going to show off your amazing photo skills, is what is on your walls, what color are your walls, what is special about them, what is your favorite or least favorite, is it inside or outside. You get the idea, let's show and tell about walls.

To begin this weeks challenge let me try to explain what is different about my walls;

I live in a house whose style is called "a Queenslander", (a) because it is in Queensland,
and (b) because it is a style of house designed to suit the Queensland weather pattern
which during summer is hot and humid and for the rest of the year is usually mild and
pleasantly warm.

"Queenslanders" were designed to be built mainly from timber, set on high stumps to
take advantage of cooling under floor breezes, with high ceilings to dissipate the hot
air within the house, with wide veranda's to offer shade and shelter.

Outer walls that are under the cover of the veranda's are constructed with a single
thickness of timber lining boards, similar to tongue and groove floor boards, which are
fixed vertically to a top plate, 2 mid rails and to a floor joist below floor level for
better insulating properties, if they are internal walls they are fixed to a floor plate
at the bottom.

The walls that are exposed to the elements are lined with the same boards but are
then covered externally with horizontal boards that we call weather-boards, (maybe
"siding" in the USA???) these overlapping boards allow rain to run off them and also
offer better insulation because of the air gap between the surfaces.

In this photo you can see the 2 mid rails on the side walls and the wall in the near foreground
while the wall in the background is without the rails.

This shows the other side of that same wall and here the rails are shown on the outside,
this is because this is an outer wall under the cover of the veranda.

Here we see the "weather-boards" that cover walls that are exposed to the elements,
it also shows the high stumps that give rise to the style known as "high-set".

As far as internal decoration is concerned, being a movie nut The Duke gets a spot.
